Mehrangate: Sharifs send legal notices to Younis Habib
Demand formal apology from former Mehran Bank chief within 14 days of receipt of notices.

The Sharifs’ lawyers have sent legal notices worth at least Rs10 billion to former president of Mehran Bank, Younis Habib, on defamation charges.
The notices – on behalf of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif – state that Habib levelled fabricated and unsubstantiated allegations for damaging their clients’ political and social standing.
Served through Cornelius, Lane and Mufti Advocates and Solicitors, the notices state that the Sharifs are “respectable and highly revered citizens of the country – the former has served twice as prime minister of the country while the latter has twice been the chief minister of Punjab.”
Habib tried to conduct a media trial of Nawaz and Shahbaz by levelling “false and slanderous allegations for damaging their political and social status,” the notices add.
The notices call for a formal apology from Habib, in print and electronic media, within 14 days of the receipt of the legal notice otherwise legal proceedings will be initiated against him seeking damages of a minimum of Rs10 billion, on behalf of each Sharif.
Shahbaz, at a press conference last month, had announced that he would serve a legal notice on Habib.
