After standstill: Curfew relaxed in Gilgit for replenishment of food supplies

Citizens have been permitted to leave their homes from 2pm to 5pm.

GILGIT:
In view of the acute shortage of food and medicine supplies the city is experiencing, authorities relaxed the seven-day old curfew for three hours in Gilgit on Monday.

Citizens have been permitted to leave their homes from 2pm to 5pm so that vital food and medical supplies can be replenished.

Gilgit has remained under curfew for the past week after sectarian clashes claimed at least 16 lives and injured over 50 others in the city as well as Chilas town on April 3rd, with periodic relaxations now and then.

The curfew was imposed after riots broke out when unidentified men attacked a rally of Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat (ASWJ) with hand grenades . Since then, sectarian tensions have gripped the city as life has come to a complete standstill.
