Fatal encounter: ASI killed, constable injured in shootout

SHO said Zaheer took advantage of darkness and escaped from the scene.

An assistant sub inspector was killed and a constable injured in shootout with a proclaimed offender in Bahlak precincts early Saturday morning, police said.


ASI Mazhar Hussain Shah and Constable Muhammad Arshad were among a Bahlak police team that raided a house in Sarang Chak 609-GB to arrest Zaheer alias Zahira on a tip off.


The police had earlier raided another house in the village to arrest Zaheer and two other proclaimed offenders Abid Husain and his brother Arbab Husain Wattoo.

The raiding team could not find Zaheer at the house.They arrested Abid Hussain and Wattoo. SHO Noor Shah said the police returned to the village on receiving a tip off about Zaheer’s presence in another house of the village.

He said ASI Hussain Shah and Constable Arshad were shot in the encounter allegedly by Zaheer. The SHO said Zaheer took advantage of darkness and escaped from the scene.

Hussain died on the spot, while Arshad was taken to Allied Hospital where doctors treating him described his condition as critical . A murder case was later registered against Zaheer at Bahlak police station.
