Public conveniences: City government to set up four more ‘model bazaars’

DCO warns officials over rotten groceries at Sunday Bazaars.

LAHORE:
The city government has started setting up ‘model bazaars’ at Harbanspura, Raiwind, Thokar Niaz Beg and China Scheme and will complete them before the end of this fiscal year, said District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal on Sunday.

He said that project directors had been appointed and contractors told to work day and night to finish the bazaars in three months. He said that cold drinking water would be made available at the markets, he said during a surprise inspection of the Sabzazar Model Bazaar. A model bazaar has already been set up in Township.

The DCO said that greenery would be planted in the model bazaars with the help of the Forests Department and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).

He said that facilities including food courts, play areas for children and exhibitions would be arranged at the markets.

He said that the income from the model bazaars would be spent on providing better facilities to citizens. He directed the authorities concerned to cover the open spaces at the Sabzazar market so people could shop in the shade.

Mengal visited the stalls at the market and listened to the shopkeepers complaints. He directed the bazaar’s management to set up recreational facilities so the market gets more visitors.

The DCO also visited the Johar Town, Model Town, Shadman, Wahdat Colony and Islampura Sunday Bazaars and issued warnings to some officials for making unsatisfactory arrangements.

The DCO directed the Model Town and Shadman Sunday Bazaar administrations to provide more facilities to citizens. He also took notice of unsatisfactory arrangements at Islampura.

Talking to customers, Mengal said that traffic police would be deputed to all Sunday Bazaars in future to resolve traffic problems. He also pledged that cold drinking water and tents for shade would be made available at all bazaars.

He said that revenue officers should be posted to each bazaar to check prices along with tehsil municipal administrators. He said all markets should have at least one toilet for men and one for women. He said that a complaint cell would be set up in each bazaar and a separate office would maintain a register of complaints.
