Tax: ‘Govt taking steps to control evasion’
Mobile teams from the Federal Board of Revenue will start working across the country from May 1.
ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said on Saturday that the government is taking concrete steps to control the culture of tax evasion.
The finance minister said that a weak regulatory mechanism encourages tax evaders, resulting in increasing numbers of people and organisations getting involved in tax evasion.
He also said that tax evasion is rampant in the cigarette industry and the government has decided to take practical steps to curb this practice.
Federal Board of Revenue’s mobile teams would become completely operational all over the country from May 1 and special audit of suspicious units would be carried out within the next 60 days, Sheikh added.
