Saving the couple: Police to escort all wedding parties
RPO says the arrangement will help curb robberies and aerial firing.
SIALKOT:
The Gujranwala regional police officer (RPO) on Friday directed the district police chiefs to provide police escort for all wedding parties in the region to improve security.
The direction came during a joint meeting of the members of the arbitration councils and police officials held at Anwar Club Auditorium.
RPO Capt (retired) Muhammad Ameen directed the district police officers and station house officers to ensure that all wedding parties were provided security.
“Let our region set an example for other regions,” the RPO said. Sialkot DPO Afzaal Kausar, Superintendent (Investigation) Nasir Muneef Qureshi and District Peace Committee senior member Zafar Malik were also present on the occasion.
RPO Ameen said that the police escort, in form of motorcycles squads, with the wedding parties would enhance the citizens’ sense of security. He hoped that this would also help discourage robberies and jubilation firing.
He said that the arbitration councils had been formed at union council levels in Gujranwala division to resolve disputes at the local level.
The RPO also set targets for these councils, advising them to make lists of major disputes and try to resolve them amicably.
He also sought citizens’ cooperation to help fight crime.
He said the internal police vigilance and intelligence network had also been developed to enhance police performance.
RPO Ameen also said that the police should maintain a register on criminals in each union council of the region.
He said the book should be updated regularly and have information on drug peddlers, land grabbers, extortionists and eve-teasers.
