Army leads national judo event
Team bags 2 gold medals on opening day; HEC sit 2nd.
KARACHI:
Pakistan Army led the National Women Judo Championship after the opening day with Iran Khan’s gold medal in the 44-kilogramme and Kiran’s gold in the under-40 kg event.
Khan defeated HEC’s Javeria Mehmood in the final as Islamabad’s Rafia Shaukat picked up a bronze medal beating Punjab’s Sidra in the third-place playoff.
Kiran defeated HEC’s Komal Haroon in the under-40 kg final and Wapda’s Zoya defeated Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Tatheer Fatima for the bronze.
HEC sit second behind Army with two silver medals in the championship that features 78 athletes from 18 teams in five different events.
