In protest: Woman resorts to self-harm outside Governor House
Rajab and his family have been protesting outside Lahore Press Club for three year, say property was taken from him.
LAHORE:
After repeated attempts of trying to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and eventually failing to do so, a female protestor slashed her arms in protest in front of Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan during a press conference outside the Governor House in Lahore on Saturday.
While Dr Awan was addressing the press, the woman and her husband named Rajab pushed through barriers and police to get to her and started shouting that if they did not get to meet the president, she would kill herself.
Dr Awan, who was in the middle of the press conference signaled her secretary to talk to the man. The secretary did so and was in the middle of telling Rajab that his application had been forwarded yesterday when the woman suddenly slashed her arms with a blade and started beating herself up.
The severe loss of blood caused the woman to lose consciousness, after which the policewomen present at the scene dragged her unconscious body to one side.
Following this, Rajab and his daughters created a scene on Mall Road which forced the police to come in and restrain them.
According to an Express News reporter, Rajab and his family had been living outside the press club in a makeshift hut for three years in protest after Rajab’s brothers and other family took illegal possession of his property worth Rs60 million.
For three years, Rajab and his family have been taking part in any and all protests outside the press club just to be heard by the concerned authorities.
Later, a case was registered against the woman for attempting suicide.
