Ajmer trip: Zardari urged to seek Dr Chishti’s release
Dr Chishty, a Pakistani citizen, was jailed in Ajmer on murder charges during a visit to his ailing mother.

Former federal minister Iqbal Haider has appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari to move the Indian authorities for the release of Dr Mohammad Khaleel Chishty during his visit to India on Sunday.
Dr Chishty, a Pakistani citizen, was jailed in an Indian prison in Ajmer on murder charges during a visit to his ailing mother.
The appeal was made to the president through his secretary general Salman Faruqi and spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, who were told to urge him to take notice of this human rights case.
Haider has attached Dr Chisty’s daughter Amna Chishty’s presentation along with the appeal. The presentation requests President Zardari to seek immediate release of Dr Chishty, an aged prisoner in critical condition.
In his appeal, Haider reminded President Zardari of his own humanitarian gesture of releasing Indian prisoner Gopal Das in early 2011 in response to the request made by Justice Markandey Katju of the Indian Supreme Court.
Haider said that if a similar request is made by President Zardari to his Indian counterpart or the Indian prime minister, “they would be morally obliged to reciprocate his gesture.”
