Video link facility should be provided to Haqqani: Gilani

Prime minister says Haqqani should be allowed to record statements in Memogate scandal via video link.

HYDERABAD:
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday called for the judicial commission probing the memogate to extend the same facility of video link to former Pakistan ambassador to US, Husain Haqqani as had been provided to Mansoor Ijaz, Express News reported on Friday.

Haqqani had left the country after the judicial commission probing the Memogate scandal permitted him to travel abroad on the condition that he would return to appear before the commission in person on a four day notice. However, Haqqani, citing threats to his life, petitioned that he be allowed to present his testimony via a video link. A Supreme Court panel comprising the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the petition.

Provide proof of Hafiz Saeed's involvement in Mumbai attacks

Gilani, speaking to the media in Hyderabad, also commented on a US bounty placed on Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and said that Pakistan maintained bilateral relations with both India and the US which it does not want to hurt. “If they have proof [of Saeed’s involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attack], then they should provide it to us.”

He also said that it was Pakistan’s internal matter and the “Foreign Office has also given a policy statement on it”.
