Anti-terrorism court: 34-year jail term for acid-attack girl
Rukhsana flung acid on her ex-fiance’s father after their engagement was called off.
FAISALABAD:
An anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad handed 34 years jail term to a girl who flung acid on her ex-fiance’s father after their engagement was called off by her in-laws.
Rukhsana, who had been arrested on November 20, 2010, was engaged to Shehzad and due to unknown reasons their engagement was called off by Shehzad’s family.
On the evening of Shehzad’s mehndi, Rukhsana reached his house in order to ‘take revenge’ and had a scuffle with his family.
She attempted to throw acid on Shehzad, but his father Akhtar Razzaq jumped in before him. The acid left Razzaq blind in one eye and he also suffered serious burns on his body. The police arrested Rukhsana red-handed on the spot.
She was charged with an offence and a challan was submitted to the ATC for trial, while she was sent to the jail.
After recording the evidence and statements of witnesses, the ATC judge awarded her 34 years imprisonment, and also directed her to pay half of the diyat and a daman of Rs5,000 to Razzaq.
