KARACHI:
The Sindh Hepatitis Prevention and Control Programme (HPCP) has activated a toll- free number (0800-14727) which would provide medical assistance for the disease’s prevention as well as management. The Sindh HPCP manager, Dr Abdul Majid Chuhtoo, said that the programme which was initiated under the directives of the chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah, in January 2009, has been extended for another three years. The programme itself was initiated on basis of surveys conducted by the Pakistan Medical and Research Council that indicated that hepatitis B and C were on rise in Sindh. “Prevalence of hepatitis-B was identified to be 2.5 per cent while hepatitis-C at 5 per cent,” said Chuhtoo.
