Political games: MQM recruits new members
The British deputy high commissioner also visits Nine Zero
KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has always worked for the rights of the Baloch people, said Shaukat Shahwani on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters, Nine Zero. “It will be a force that will restrict the spread of separatist notions within the Baloch community.
Shahwani, along with other members of the Balochistan National Party, including Samiullah Kurd, Tanvir Baloch, Ajmal Kurd, Asmatullah Kurd, Tahir Shahwani and Bashir Amed joined the MQM. They claim that the MQM is the only party that can represent the Baloch people adequately. “The MQM will never take any steps to hurt the people of Balochistan,” said Samiullah Kurd while talking to the media. “The MQM can save this country.”
The new members have joined the party at a time when Baloch areas in Karachi have experienced periodic violence and feuds. In these areas, violence is commonly attributed to the rivalry between MQM and the banned Peoples Amn Committee. Shahwani, who kept his sunglasses on throughout the press conference told journalists that they were mostly associated with Quetta.
Deputy High Commissioner at Nine Zero
The United Kingdom’s deputy high commissioner Francis Campbell met with members of the MQM Coordination Committee at Nine Zero on Wednesday. The party said that the meeting was held to discuss general issues.
However, the party and Campbell did not speak to the media. The party’s deputy convenor Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, Faisal Sabzwari, Farogh Nasim, Mustafa Kamal and Kanwer Khalid Younis were also present at the meeting. The deputy high commissioner also went to Mardan House to meet Awami National Party’s Shahi Syed.
