He said they said: Controversy over fumigation work

Many areas were reportedly not covered by the drive.

KARACHI:
The 15-day fumigation campaign launched across the city by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) concluded on Tuesday. However, many areas were reportedly not covered by the drive, which might possibly lead to outbreak of diseases like malaria and dengue. Residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Safoora Goth, North Karachi, FB area, North Nazimabad, Malir, Karaimabad, Shanti Nagar, Patel Para, Guru Mandir, Garden, Sohrab Goth and Paposh, among others, said that the fumigation drive had not taken place in their localities. KMC’s senior director for health, Shokat Zaman, said that the fumigation campaign had suffered because of the law and order situation in the city, after which it was extended till April 3 so that “extensive spraying and cleanliness of drains was also carried out in an attempt to eradicate all breeding grounds of mosquitoes,” said Zaman, while adding that all areas in the city had been fumigated.
