Increase in gas prices: 2 petitions filed in LHC
Petitioner request that the court issues directions to the government to withdraw the increase.
LAHORE:
Two petitions, challenging the recent increase in petroleum and CNG prices, were moved on Monday before the Lahore High Court. Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, the Judicial Activism Panel chairman, filed both the petitions; one on his own behalf, in which he challenged the increase in petrol prices, and the other on behalf of the CNG Association, which challenged the increase in gas price. Advocate Siddique said that the government claimed that it had to import most of the oil and that financial constraints had forced the authorities to pass the global increase in oil products to the public. He submitted that the increase would push inflation even higher and create a crisis. He requested that the court issues directions to the government to withdraw the increase.
