Power Crisis: Punjab govt also to blame, says PTI
Says it could have built its own power plants after the passage of the 18th Amendment.

The Punjab government is at least partly responsible for the electricity crisis as it could have built its own power plants after the passage of the 18th Amendment, said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) officials on Saturday. The government has not added a single megawatt to the electricity grid, while mismanagement has landed the province Rs600 billion in debt, said PTI Punjab President Ahsan Rashid and Lahore President Mehmoodur Rashid in a press statement. The officials warned the provincial government not to take any action against PTI supporters over their rally on The Mall in defiance of a ban on public assembly on the road, pointing out that Punjab Assembly legislators from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had done the same on Thursday. Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the party’s secretariat, the PTI hailed the Supreme Court’s verdict in the rental power plants case, saying it would prevent corruption. The PTI also praised the media for its role in bringing the case to light.
