Petition: ‘Don’t buy electricity from the Indians’
It is shameful to purchase electricity that India produced from dams constructed illegally on Pakistan’s rivers.

A constitutional petition has been moved in the Supreme Court seeking direction to restrain the federal government from striking a deal with India to purchase 5,000 MW electricity. Watan Party moved the petition through Barrister Zafarullah Khan, saying that it was shameful for Pakistan to purchase electricity that India produced from dams constructed illegally on Pakistan’s rivers and their stolen water. He said due to the theft of water, Pakistan was facing dangerous shortage of water for the Kharif crop. Khan said in buying Indian electricity Pakistan would be tacitly approving the theft. He said the government should instead focus on developing national resources, particularly Thar Coal that it would provide ample electricity for our needs. He prayed the court to bar the federal government from signing a deal with India for importing electricity.
