Spirited students compete for sporting glory
100-metre sprint, cycle race, obstacles race and a children’s race were organised at the IMCG.

The energy and enthusiasm of students spilled over to their teachers, as they too competed in an obstacle race. The big ground at the Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F-7/2 on Friday worked to their advantage as students participated in a 100-metre sprint, cycle race, obstacles race and a children’s race.
MNA Tasneem Siddiqui, the chief guest and once a physical instructor at the college, commented that sports are an important part of education as they instil good values such as healthy competition and sportsmanship. Fitness and good health were an obvious bonus, she noted.
The college’s commitment to sports showed at the event. Titled the best college of the year in Islamabad region, IMCG bagged top positions in the Federal Board competitions for table tennis, badminton, cricket, cycling and football. They also finished as runner ups in volley ball, gymnastics and hockey.
Saba Javed won the first position in the 100-metre race, Chaman Mushtaq won the cycle race, and Sania Khursheed won the students’ obstacle race. In the staff race, Aneela and Rahat Tariq came first. Majia Husnain won the children’s race and was gleaming with joy at the finish line.
Saba, the 100-metre winner, said, “ I always look forward to the annual sports day as it’s very different from other events that happen all year round: we get to compete with each other physically for a change and get recognition for it.”
