ANP day of mourning: Most of Karachi closed
Nine people killed in firing incidents, 13 cars torched.
KARACHI:
Awami National Party’s (ANP) slain activist Zainul Abideen was laid to rest in Khamosh Colony graveyard on Thursday, while the party continued observing a day of mourning across Karachi.
Most areas of the city remained closed with very thin traffic on the roads while shops remained shut.
Abideen, the joint secretary of ANP Patel Para Ward was shot dead on Wednesday near Intermediate Board office.
The funeral prayers were offered in Lasbela Football Ground amid tightened security which were attended by ANP’s provincial minister Amir Nawab, MPA Amanullah Mehsood and ANP leader Bari Kakar and other party members.
Transport remained partially suspended throughout the city as Transport Ittehad had announced not to ply the buses on the roads.
Petrol pumps and businesses remained closed in some areas while all educational institutes remained open.
A heavy contingent of Rangers and police has been deployed in sensitive areas of the city in order to curb any potential terror bid.

The bodies of the deceased were recovered from block F, North Nazimabad. They were identified as Zeeshan and Jalil. Both were friends and residents of Street 18 of the area.
