Police encounter: ‘One killed outside MQM event’

KARACHI: A man, suspected of opening fire at a Mushaira organised by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, was reportedly killed in an encounter with the police late Sunday night in Karachi.  Police sources said that the deceased, who was later identified as Kamran, a resident of Shah Rasool Colony, and his companions fired at the Mushaira organised by the MQM, near Clifton. No injury or casualty was reported, but at least four vehicles, including an Express News DSNG, were damaged. DSP Nayyarul Haq told The Express Tribune that police personnel present at the Mushaira responded quickly and fired back on the attackers. The police added that the culprits were in a black Toyota Corolla and showed themselves as workers of the Awami National Party.  The officer, however, did not confirm the killing of Kamran but said that the police was preparing to launch an operation in the Shah Rasool and Neelum colonies.  According to Express News, the police encounter took place outside the Mushaira, which continued after the incident.
