Sunday bazaars: DCO pays surprise visits
DCO appointed officers to visit the bazaars every week and ensure that the goods were of a decent quality.
LAHORE:
District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal paid surprise visits to the Shadman, Islampura and Karim Park, Ravi Road Sunday Bazaars to check that vendors were selling at the prescribed rates and to inspect the organisation of the weekly markets.
Mengal ordered the Data Ganj Bakhsh town municipal officer (TMO) to improve arrangements for the Sunday Bazaars. He said stall holders who sell substandard fruits and vegetables would be given a warning for their first offence and fined for their second. If they were caught a third time, they would not be allowed to sell at the bazaars.
He also announced cash awards for stall holders who sell good standard items at cheap rates. A three-member committee has been set up to select the winners.
At the Islampura bazaar, the DCO exempted visitors from paying the parking fee after a citizen complained. Mengal spoke to customers at the bazaar who complained about the quality of fruits and vegetables. The DCO destroyed substandard items in the bazaar and warned stall holders of legal action if they sold low quality goods.
He said that grocery prices in the markets should not be higher than in the open market.
The DCO appointed officers to visit the bazaars every week and ensure that the goods were of a decent quality and being sold at controlled rates.
