LAHORE:

Ejaz Art Gallery’s art café on Mehmood Ali Kasuri Road was opened to the public on Thursday with Naeem Amjad’s work on display.

The cafe has been started in collaboration with Ze’ Grill.

Dr Rahat Naveed Masud, principal of Punjab University’s College of Art and Design inaugurated the show. “Naeem’s treatment of landscapes, especially how he has captured the mood of the old city at night and his dramatic interplay of light and shadow is spectacular,” he said. Marjorie Husain, an art critic, said that art cafes used to be places where “penniless artists” could meet up to discuss and enjoy art.

“In his paintings, one finds people sitting at tables surrounded by tall, Baroque-like buildings with light streaming from the windows and alcoves,” she said while describing his series of work.

The paintings are priced between Rs40,000 and Rs65,000.
