Making amends: Raisani brothers apologise to policemen

KARACHI:

The morale of the police force shot up as the sons of the Balochistan chief minister, Raees and Yadgar, apologised for beating up the officers at the hearing in the sessions court on Thursday.

ASI Ghulam Hussain, who was injured by the brothers, has now become a sort of hero for his colleagues posted outside the houses of politicians, judges and senior police officers in Defence Housing Authority.

Backed by armed guards, Raees and Yadgar had beaten up ASI Hussain and another police constable earlier this month when they tried to stop them from harassing people in DHA. The judicial magistrate also quashed the FIR against the brothers after they personally went to Darakshan police station and asked for forgiveness. The case was brought before the magistrate who was informed that ASI Hussain had reached an agreement with Raees and Yadgar. Both of them took back their bail applications from the sessions court after the case was dropped.

The outcome of the case has lifted the spirits of police officials, said SHO Darakhshan Nasrullah Khan. “This is a message that no one is above law,” he said. “I also appreciate that they followed the due process of law and came to apologise.”

“The police have shown its power,” said another official of Darakshan police station. “We did not withdraw the cases against them just because we were under pressure. The boys walked into the thanaa, bowed their heads and apologised.” The official said that never before has a chief minister like Raisani, who is also the chief of his tribe, been made to submit before the law.
