Escaped suspect: High Court reprimands FIA

Mother alleged that the gang was dealing in human traffickers who put their clients into forced labour in Greece.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday took notice of escape of a human trafficker from the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and directed agency officials to produce him before the court within two days.

The court remarked that the agency could apparently only harass ‘humble’ people and not nab real criminals. Addressing Inspector Shahbaz Ahmad, the judge said it seemed that the accused was facilitated in his escape.

Petitioner Razia Bibi said Safdar Nadeem had sent her son Usman to Greece on payment of Rs750,000. She alleged that Nadeem was operating a gang of human traffickers who put their clients into forced labour in Greece.

She said her son had also been sent into forced labour and had not been allowed to contact his family in Pakistan.

She requested the court to order the FIA to arrest the gang so that her son could be brought back to the country.
