Education city scam: Prof remanded till March 22
Professor accused of depriving some 4,500 investors of Rs1 billion in a ghost housing scheme.

Judicial Magistrate Zafar Iqbal on Monday extended until March 22 the physical remand of Prof Iftikhar Baig of Shalimar College, who is accused of depriving some 4,500 investors of Rs1 billion in a ghost housing scheme. Inspector Rana Fawad of the Anti Corruption Establishment produced Prof Baig before the court on Monday and sought permission to keep him in custody for further investigation of the case. The court allowed the request and directed him to produce Prof Baig, a former chairman of the Rawalpindi education board, on March 22 along with a report of the investigation up till that date. According to the FIR registered against Prof Baig in Rawalpindi, he and various accomplices launched a ghost housing scheme, Education City, said to be located at over 4,000 kanals on Fateh Jang Road near the Islamabad airport, and defrauded people of investments in the scheme.
