Dust storm in Karachi causes closure of airspace
According to the Pakistan Meterological Department (PMD), dusty winds are expected to blow in some parts of Sindh throughout the night.
Winds as fast as 37 kilometers per hour were blowing in the city.
The met department also forecast that weather in most parts of the country will remain dry.
Sukkur ravaged by wind, rain
Earlier, in August last year a heavy dust storm hit Sukkur and areas around it.
The wind was so strong that dozens of billboards, trees and electric poles were sent crashing to the ground. Later, torrential rain followed with an intensity that submerged all the main roads within minutes.
With the first few drops of rain, the power supply was disrupted for most parts of the city. Reports gathered from Rohri and Pano Akil spoke of trees uprooted due to the tremendous wind speed. The roofs of many ‘katcha’ houses and huts were whipped away. No deaths were reported.

When I first went to TTK (Toba Tek Singh) a summer day in late 1970s, a real storm was howling and raging. I was told a tale of a British ICS District Officer whose replacement arrived in the midst of a fierce dust storm. The new Officer asked how often do these storms hit TTK?? The Old Man leaving said, "One. Its been raging since I came 3 years ago." Karachites you are lucky you have had your first one.

It has already cost our economy a billion dollars, and expect even worse .. the Baloch are out to avenge us all in Karachi for all the destruction and terror in the rest of Pakistan have brought on to them .. They unleashed the dust and have it blowing down to us!
And where am i questioning the importance of this issue .. God, can't you guys just understand simple English?! I am criticizing the way this news story has been written .. i am criticizing journalism, not Express reporting a dust storm which has some how managed to wreak havoc in everyone's life ..

it did not question the importance or the topic of the story, it questioned the way it has been presented and mentioned, and the kind of information and details that have been included
such pieces of news often end up misguiding people regarding facts .. Karachi is known for its windy weather ..

people like you jump in without even understanding the context of the criticism .. Half of this news story is about a dust storm in Sukkur which came in last year in August 2011 .. how was that even informing you regarding the hazards or events of today
and about you driving, well i was driving my way back home around that time, or may be later than that .. but trust me, i drive safe .. and i have my eyes open all the time and my mind alert .. and that is why they issued the driving license to me .. and for god sakes stop exaggerating!

@Asad: And exactly what seems to be your problem? They are just reporting in case of people who have their flights booked and aviation issues occur also driving in such atmosphere leads to head on collisions! By 7 o'clock driving back home I coulnt see a motorcycle myself coz it had just started. Not something funny, while your funny bones may tickle at some mockery talkshows on geo or do u believe that a kite being stuck in a tree is real journalism? how wonderfully you guys take it when a 3 foot man marries a 6 foot lady or what is beti B's real name. Just be careful while u choose your words sometimes the picture ir the speed of air is the only thing which is to be pointed and laughed at.

first of all, winds as fast as 37 km/hr? isn't that a normal occurrence in the city? secondly the picture, it seems more like an under construction road .. thirdly, how is a dust storm lashing sukkur even related to this story and that to an event which occurred last year!
your editorial board needs some serious revamping!
