One IJT student killed, another injured at Saifee College

IJT alleges that All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) might be behind the incident.

KARACHI:
An activist from the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) died while another sustained injuries on Monday in a firing incident at Saifee College located in North Nazimabad.

According to sources, some unidentified men, aged between 40-45 years came inside the college and opened fire. IJT students chased them but they managed to flee the scene.

In the process, a bullet hit one of the IJT students, Atif, near his ribcage.

After sometime, when police came to the college, angered IJT students hurled stones at the police mobile, protesting against the firing incident.

In retaliation, policemen opened fire at them in which IJT’s Muhammad Arif died on the spot.

Sources in IJT allege that the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) might be behind the incident as a few days back the IJT had requested college administration to take off APMSO’s flags from the college entrance.

However, the APMSO only operates in the college during the evening shift, which is why it could not be ascertained who was responsible for the incident.

The body of the deceased was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy, while Atif is currently undergoing an operation in the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors say his condition is critical.
