Slap ban: Waheeda Shah files petition challenging ECP's decision
Petition challenges ECP’s decision to ban Waheeda Shah for slapping two women at a polling station.
Pakistan Peoples Party’s MPA Waheeda Shah Bukhari filed a petition in the Hyderabad Bench of the Sindh High Court on Monday challenging Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision of banning Bukhari from contesting elections for two years and nullifying the results of PS-53 constituency.
The petition also challenged ECP’s decision of holding by-polls of Sindh Assembly seat PS-53 again, and asked the court to issue a stay order in this regard.
The petition was filed by her counsel on her behalf.
Besides facing an inquiry for assaulting polling staff, Bukhari was also involved in an alleged case of rigging during the by-polls in PS-53 Tando Muhammad Khan.
She was declared the winner in the initial vote-count of the provincial seat by-poll (PS 53), but following the infamous slapping incident caught on video, the ECP withheld official results.
She was caught on camera slapping two women at polling station No. 16 at the Government Girls High School.
