Suspected Murder: Religious scholar found dead

Maulana Dr Abdur Rashid Azhar, a religious scholar belonging to Jamaat-e-Ahle Hadith, was found murdered in his house Saturday evening. In its initial report, the police suspected that Maulana Azhar had been strangulated to death. However, the possibility of poisoning cannot be ruled out, said a police official. According to initial investigations, Maulana Azhar arrived home with two unidentified men who his family assumed to be his guests. After no response from him for a while, his family checked to find his door locked. Upon breaking in, they found him dead on the floor. The family also reported hearing his car start earlier, which they assumed was Maulana Azhar himself. The two unidentified men also took his car, wallet and cellphone.
