Babloo, the white stallion, steals the show on day two
Three hundred riders participated in the singles competition.
ISLAMABAD:
Aurangzeb Khan and his horse Babloo, stole the show on the second day of the tent-pegging event that took place at Fatima Jinnah Park on Saturday. The singles competition, of the three day event organised by Capital Development Authority, boasted over 300 riders from around the country.
The proceedings began around 9 in the morning, as hundreds of people from the twin cities and other areas, who had come to witness some exciting horse riding, gathered around the 1,000 metre that was laid specifically for this competition.
Babloo, a white stallion from Al-Syed Horse Club, Chiniot, stood first. Babloo’s rider, Aurangzeb Khan, who was wearing a traditional kullah cap with a shalwar-kameez and waistcoat combo, told The Express Tribune, “Thank God I won! I had been practicing for a while for this event and am very happy to get the top spot.”
Former MPA Nawabzada Malik Khurram from Pindi Gheb finished second. The recently inducted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member beat Mehar Nowshair Khan Lak, who stood third.
The competition was tough, with over 300 participants from 50 clubs taking part in it. Only 14 riders were selected during the first round with six making it to the final hurdle.
A large number of people who had come to witness the ancient sport being played, added to the colour and excitement at the Fatima Jinnah Park. “I especially came from Lahore to see this mega event and am surprised by the large number of participants,” said Khalid Hashmi, a participant from Lahore.
After the end of the competition, a horse dance was arranged which was thoroughly enjoyed by the onlookers.
“It is a wonderful event, I suggest the organisers arrange such events at least twice a year,” said Abdullah Hussain, a resident of Sector F-6.
The singles competition ended on Saturday and the section (team) competition is scheduled for Sunday (today).
