Six Police players suspended after brawl
Dispute arises in National Challenge Cup football match.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has suspended and fined six Police players after the team members assaulted a referee during their match against national champions KRL in the ongoing National Challenge Cup on March 15.
While KRL were awarded the match, the PFF Disciplinary Committee said that the six Police players were fined Rs20,000 and also suspended for six games. The incident occurred after the referee had awarded KRL a free kick.
“It happened in the 10th minute,” the match commissioner Iqbal Baloch told The Express Tribune. However, I feel that a fine of Rs20,000 is a bit too much, since these players are from a humble background.”
Meanwhile, PPWD defeated Railways 2-1, Wapda thrashed Navy 3-0 and Army recorded a 1-1 draw against PAF.
