The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed on Thursday that it had rejected preconditions set by Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) president of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chapter, Amir Muqam, to join PTI ranks. The PML-Q stalwart himself claimed to be ‘shocked’ by the PTI statement, saying he had never set any preconditions in the first place.
According to a press release issued by the PTI on Thursday, the party’s provincial president Asad Qaiser had rejected conditions set by Amir Muqam to join the party. However, the statement went on to add that Muqam was still in touch with the PTI.
Interestingly, a senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader claimed that Muqam had refused to join PTI and will instead soon be joining PML-N along with his supporters.
When asked about the puzzling fate of Muqam, PTI spokesperson Shah Farman confirmed that Muqam had been demanding a ‘certain’ position in the party and since PTI’s party policy was very clear in not accepting any preconditions for joining, the two parties failed to reach a decision on the matter.
“Anyone desirous of joining the party cannot come with a set of conditions,” Farman told The Express Tribune, adding that Muqam was demanding a certain position within the party. However, Farman refused to say what position the PML-Q leader was demanding.
Muqam’s version
When approached, Muqam denied the allegation that he had set conditions for joining the PTI.
“I do not know about this statement and heard about it from the media, I contacted some PTI people, who also expressed their ignorance,” he said.
He went on to add that he had been invited to join PTI by some of its leaders, namely Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehangir Tareen, Javed Hashmi and Sarwar Khan, and that he was in consultation with supporters and friends about the possible move.
“We did not make any demand,” Muqam emphasised, adding that he was shocked to learn that Imran’s party has issued such a statement.
When asked why he was leaving the PML-Q, Muqam said that he was still the party’s president and had strengthened the party in K-P, adding that in politics one should have an open mind.
“Leaving a party is another thing and thinking about it is another,” he said.
PML-N contacts
When asked about a possible move to the PML-N, Muqam claimed that he had also been invited by the PML-N leadership to join the party.
“We are in contact with them and will decide in due course after consultation with supporters,” he said.
In yet another twist to the never-ending speculation, PML-N provincial general secretary Rehmat Salam Khattak told The Express Tribune that Muqam had refused to join the PTI and the statement by the party was just a consequence of the fallout between the two.
Khattak added that the PML-N was in contact with Muqam and that he was hopeful of him joining the party. He claimed that Muqam had also demanded the post of PML-N’s provincial president in order to join the party; however, the PML-N had refused the demand.
“If it wasn’t for this, he would have joined PML-N months ago,” Khattak said.

guys i m from KPK and i know this guy atleast a little more than most of the non-kpk commentators on ET .. Amir Muqam is not THAT bad.. i dont know why and how people come up with such stories.. if you don't like him by face just say it people.. he is an educated person.. he is a devoted person.. if you have any doubt about his committment just visit his constituency and u 'll feel the difference.. he is NOT that bad as reproted in media and we know for Godsake media can report anything and everything.. media is the kingggggg dont u know...
i think this is a no brainer , Amir muqaam obviously would have liked to be PTI's provincial head (which right now is Asad qaiser) , and that would have gotten PTI more criticism from its supporters and lead to decrease in its popularity . So i guess thats good for PTI . though i wish Amir muqaam joins Pti BUT WITHOUT ANY CONDITIONS .
pti should not welcome such rotton eggs muqam should go to pmln if he wants power but there is no room for him in our party
PTI = Party of Talented Individuals
Imran Khan (Shoukat Khanam, NAML, World cup)
Abrar ul Haq (Sahara Foundation, youth assembly )
Javed Hashmi (Anti establishment leader , accepted jail but not surrendered)
Shah Mahmood (Refused to release Raymond Davis)
There is a long list of leaders to workers, PTI is the bunch of talented people, inshallah together they will change the fate of the nation.
pti zindabad
Media on a pay role...Don't know if Muqam as well as PTI members r denying the news then why it is still a news...cheap tactics...never mind how cheap it goes PTI will sweep all the cheapness soon InshaALLAH.!!
I have never uttered anything against the right of ANP to rule KPK, PML-N to rule Punjab, or MQM to be a part of Sind govt. They have all been elected by the people. My only problem is with the people who are rejected but want to come into power by the backdoor. Most of the PML orphans are one good example of that. There is no ideological differences in PML, N, F, Q, APML and Z. The only difference is who wants to be the leader.
PTI is a party of principles. Muqam contacted PTI, but PTI,s policy is very clear, No preconditions for joining the party. Even Javed Hashmi, Mian Azhar, Jahangir Tareen & Kurshed Qasuri joined PTI without any conditions. Awsome decision, salute PTI.
Thank God he is not joining PTI..& now he is coming back and denying this statement. I would rather take PTI's verdict over PMLQ's verdict...we are done with you..InshaAllah we will bring us up like never before..great decision PTI..awesome!!!
Mirza is not interested in right or left he worships plundering ppl and party
Actually Muqam contacted Imran for joining PTI, but PML people in malakand and whole of KPK went against his decision. PTI never offered such corrupt people to join and lead the nation again.
@mirza Keep your left wing right wing stuff to yourself. The aim is to save the country, doesn't matter who's going to do it. Stop being all paranoid about rightists
Something about . . . . . . . . . . Mary!
He is trying to make the most out of it. There is no difference going from one rightwing party to another. Their only differences are who would be the boss?
There is no room in PTI for such people..Welcome to the PML-N!....power hungry party
Thanks God! He is not joining PTI.
