Mehrangate: Rehman Malik to sue Shahbaz Sharif
Interior minister to sue Punjab chief minister, Senator Mushahidullah for withdrawing money from IB's account.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik has decided to sue Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Mushahidullah for withdrawing Rs10 billion and Rs2 billion respectively from Intelligence Bureau’s (IB) account.
In a statement released by the interior ministry, Malik claimed that he was not aware of the Mehrangate issue as the interior ministry has nothing to do with the intelligence agency. “The ministry does not even control their finances and operations.”
The minister further said that Sharif and Mushahidullah are trying to divert the attention of the public from former Mehran Bank chief Younis Habib’s allegations in the Mehrangate scandal.
Malik has ordered his lawyer to issue a notice to Sharif and Mushahidullah in this regard, said the statement.
Earlier in a press conference held at Sharif’s residence in Lahore, the chief minister informed the media of taking action against Habib over his claim of giving hefty amounts to them.
