Shortfall: Cotton may have to be imported

Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Khawaja Mohammad Anis has said that the textile sector is expected to consume 15 million bales of cotton, and one million bales may have to be imported to meet requirements. He was talking to the APP here on Wednesday.



The need for import may arise keeping in view the estimated cotton production of 13 million bales, he said. He said that the textile sector is expected to demand 15.5 million bales of lint. “The deficit will have to be met through the import of a million bales, with domestic ginning units providing the rest.”
