FC Commandant laid to rest

PESHAWAR:
The commandant of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) DIG Safwat Ghayyur was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard on Thursday.

Ghayyur, along with three other persons, was killed in a suicide attack on Wednesday on Sunehri Masjid Road in Peshawar Cantt, close to the paramilitary force headquarters.

Earlier, funeral prayers for the FC comandant were offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, where a large number of government officials and civilians attended the commandant’s last rites.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has declared one-day mourning for the slain commandant.


Talking to reporters following the funeral prayers, Interior Minister Rehman Malik eulogised Ghayyur and awarded him the Sitara-e-Shujaaat to honour his bravery.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said that terrorists who have lost all public sympathy were now targeting important personalities. However, he added, the people and the government will not lose heart in the face of such attacks.

He said that the slain commandant was a brave and honest police official, and the void left by his death will be hard to fill.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Owais Ahmed Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Chief Secretary Javed Iqbal, senior ministers Bashir Ahmed Bilour and Rahimdad Khan, Pakistan Peoples Party - Sherpao (PPP-S) chairperson Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police chief Malik Naveed Khan, Inspector General Frontier Corps Major General Tariq Khan and civilians attended his funeral prayers.
