Promised compensation: Health Dept asked to produce ‘lost’ record
Family of dengue victim says it is yet to get the announced amount
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Health Department to produce, by March 28, the missing medical record of a 20-year-old who is claimed to have died of dengue fever in 2011.
The victim’s family approached the high court to get the compensation, announced by the chief minister for families of people who lost their lives to dengue fever.
Muhammad Khalid submitted that his son had died at Mayo hospital. He said the Health Department had initially told him that he would receive the compensation “soon”. He contacted the department again after six months and was told that his son’s medical record had been lost.
The petitioner prayed that the Health Department be directed to retrieve the missing record and also pay the promised compensation.
Controlling dengue
Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Monday deferred, till March 21, the hearing of a petition against government’s failure to control dengue.
The case was adjourned because the respondents, including the Punjab government, did not file a reply.
The chief justice had directed the Punjab government and the city district government to apprise the court of the steps being taken to prevent and control a dengue outbreak this year.
