Pensioners’ plea: Govt told to resume Gozara Allowance

Official of the Accountant General’s Office said about 125,000 pensioners would benefit from the order.

LAHORE:
The Punjab Ombudsman has directed the provincial government to resume provision of Gozara (cost of living) Allowance to pensioners which was in 2001. An official of the Accountant General’s Office said about 125,000 pensioners would benefit from the order. Pensioners had filed a petition regarding the discontinuation of the Gozara Allowance. The ombudsman has now directed the Punjab government to resume this allowance immediately as it had been resumed by federal government and in Sindh and Balochistan. The ombudsman further directed the Accountant General to establish special counters to facilitate pensioners for their arrears.
