Jirga orders killing of free-will marriage couple
The jirga was attended by around 150 people of the community and was held at the house of Mukhtiar Chandio, the father of the girl. Two police constables also attended the jirga in a personal capacity as they are relatives of the couple, sources said.
Sources have also revealed that a lashkar has been formed for the execution of the decisions and will be led by Ammamoon Chandio and Habib Chandio.
Station House Officer (SHO) Maqbool Tatla, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that he had sent Assistant Sub-Inspector Ismail along with the constables for the whereabouts of the incident. He said that he was on his way to Basti Ramday along with other personnel.
The SHO said that no written application had been received from either side regarding the jirga. He said the girl’s parents had not filed a report on her going missing either.
He said that if the jirga had taken the decisions, then the boy’s side should approach the police for protection of the couple and the house.
The SHO said that action will be taken according to the law against those who participated in the jirga.

So two cops attended a meeting to conspire to murder. This is legal in Pakistan? As long as you're off duty you can conspire to murder innocent people?

Jirga led lynch mobs to protect honor are protected by the state and so is murder in the name of blasphemy. Its all sanctioned by the laws of the state.

I fail to discern the difference between a Jirga and a Lynch mob. Except that lynch mobs were never really officially accepted when they were used.
Will you please stop calling these panchayats as Jirgas. Jirga is a very respected term in Pushtoon society and it never allows or condones such inhuman acts. Jirga is more like a mediation body, it never serves as a court. Please correct it ET!
My maternal side is from Rahim yar Khan and I am quite surprised to read this news item. I have never come across such incidents taking place in that area.
If this is true then someone explain why the govt hasn't arrested and put all of the members of this Jirga in jail. Conspiracy to commit murder is a crime in the civilized World.
This is a trash and fabricated story. Rahim Yar Khan and other parts of Seriki belt are not jirga-type areas, and people mostly do not go for honour killings. Instead they approach police and convene village punchayats to resolve the issue out of court. The story does not quote any reliable sources and lacks version of the parties. Police say they have not received any such complaint. Such imaginative, one-sided and planted stories paint Pakistani journalism yellow, dark yellow.

Yeah go on why not? It is Jirga after all not as if it was a court of law. KILL THEM! AND destroy your country too set a Jirga for that too while you are att it, why not?
Unfortunately, the jirga culture is not only in the backward areas but it’s very common in the big cities and towns too. The mob-mentality of religious and ethnical groups against others is another version of Jirga. It is barbaric, inhuman, un-Islamic and fascist to implement punishment by group of people when law and implementing authority exists.
When every one in the country is a killer or helper to a killer, perhpas innocents should be hanged!
And then people ask why there are so many killings!
