Vanity Fair releases best dressed list

NEW YORK:
Singer Lady Gaga, France’s First Lady Carla Bruni and actor Alec Baldwin were chosen by Vanity Fair magazine as among the world’s best dressed people.

The magazine has said that “there’s an eclectic feel” to this years list of style. But they did stick to their motto that the list marks those whose individual taste stands out and do not necessarily follow fashion trends.

In its September edition released Tuesday, the monthly also mentioned Princess Maria of Denmark and US First Lady Michelle Obama, who is said to have brought back arms, belts, cardigans, shifts, high hair and kitten-heel pumps, in its list of 45 persons. Actors Diane Kruger and Carey Mulligan were also mentioned. When asked about their personal style, Kruger said her favourite item of clothing is “anything from Chanel”, while Mulligan is most likely to be seen in Prada, Vionnet and Lanvin.

Samantha Cameron, wife of the British prime minister, also made the cut along with filmmaker Martin Scorcese, NBC news anchor Brian Williams and the Duchess of Alba while undeniably stylish stars Alexa Chung and Kate Bosworth did not make the list.

While elegant Penelope Cruz was not on the list, her new husband Javier Bardem was. Bardem named his style influence to be any character he is playing, “I’ll investigate the style of the character intensely. I will wear the clothes and walk around the streets in them.”

Designer John Galliano, photographer Bruce Weber, Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier and football player David Beckham, who said his favourite items of clothing are “Dior Jeans and a white t-shirt,” also shared the honours.
