HBL register four-wicket win

Taufeeq’s half-century helps team down NBP in one-day cup match.

Relegated from the top-tier in first-class cricket, HBL redeemed themselves in the Faysal Bank One-day Cup Division I, defeating NBP by four wickets at the Gaddadi Stadium in Lahore yesterday.


HBL bowled out NBP for 187 in 45.4 overs as leg-spinner Danish Kaneria bagged three wickets before Taufeeq Umar hit a superb half-century to take his team past the finish line with 38 balls to spare.

Meanwhile, Jalat Khan scored a quick-fire 40 and took two wickets to help SBP win by 38 runs against WAPDA at the LCCA ground in Lahore.


Aamer Sajjad put up a fight with a 108-ball 93, which contained three sixes and five boundaries, but failed to guide WAPDA to victory.

In another clash, ZTBL defeated PIA by five wickets at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad courtesy half-centuries from Babar Azam (87) and Yasir Hameed (77). Batting first, PIA were all out for 198 in 47.5 overs. Faisal Iqbal continued his good run in the domestic circuit, making 74, but Shoaib Malik struggled in making a 64-ball 28. Pacers Muhammad Khalil and Junaid Zia bagged three wickets apiece.

In reply, ZTBL took just 41.3 overs to overhaul the target.

In Group B, Rawalpindi Rams won by five wickets against Sialkot Stallions courtesy Yasim Murtaza who played a 26-run cameo and bagged three wickets. Meanwhile, left-arm quickie Nasarullah claimed a five-for to bowl Islamabad Leopards to a 71-run win against Faisalabad Wolves.

The match between Karachi Dolphins and hosts Abbottabad Falcona was abandoned midway due to rain.
