“A two-party system is entrenched in the country, which is why we have decided to go back to our parent party,” Fawad, who made the decision along with his uncle Chaudhry Shahbaz, told The Express Tribune. A formal announcement will be made in the next few days, he said. His uncle Shahbaz is currently the APML’s chief coordinator.
Fawad had resigned as the media coordinator of the APML in January, leading to rumours that he may be defecting to the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which has recently welcomed several political heavyweights.
Fawad and Shahbaz have already met PPP co-chairman President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani to amicably settle their long-standing issues with the PPP.
“My uncle Chaudhry Altaf, a member of the PPP, remained governor of the Punjab from 1993 to 1997; so our roots lie with the PPP,” Fawad said.
When asked about reports of his negotiations with the PTI, he referred to the example of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid dissident Marvi Memon saying that she had joined PML-Nawaz as she is aware of the country’s political scenario.
But, he said, he had preferred PPP over PML-N as he believed it was a more liberal, visionary and progressive party.
Fawad’s constituency is Jhelum district where, in 2002, his uncle won a seat on a PML-Q ticket and served as a federal minister. Both will contest on PPP’s tickets in the next general elections.
Musharraf and Fawad fell apart when the former announced that he will be returning to Pakistan, despite the latter’s opposition. Fawad had said that, as the party’s media coordinator, he will not be able to defend the APML should Musharraf back out of his commitment.

He's a good speaker, well defended PPP in his first media outing!
@Truth Teller: "Tsunami has lost it’s steam! Establishment is probably busy with other plans. "
Tsunami, is supposed to bring death and destruction on its path, and collects debris.
inshallah pti will win coming general election ..
Tsunami has lost it's steam! Establishment is probably busy with other plans.
We the silent majority, stand with Musharraf.
Mr. Musharraf! You have been out flanked, out maneuvered and out-classed in politics by the local illiterate politicians.
Therefore, it is high time you stop for the day and let your loyal supporters go where they want. Forget coming back to Pakistan because you have been caught in a pincer like movement and you are completely BOXED in.
All commiserations to Major General Rashid Qureshi who out of loyalty got himself in this mess.
Good night and try to get a good night's rest. Salams
I being a supporter of APML always felt at Odds with my cousin who is a well known lawyer because of Fawad Ch. My cousin used to tell me about the corruption of fawad Ch. Now I am happy that he has left. My cousin was right but I am still happy that at least APML does not opportunists.
Who is Fawad Chaudary?
@Ahmed Baksh: Fawad Chaudary was the one who criticized it every time on live tv.
.
Words are just words. Please don't attach any meaning to them.
@Mehran: This is Casino Royale. He probably has visited his Piir Saahab, who whispered which horse to lay the money on.
Another opurtunitist just like marvi memon, what do these people stand for, sure had people fooled for a long time they are against corruption, they go and join the two biggest corrupt parties for self gain, musharraf is better off without them,in time situations will change.
All PTI supporters know that he is a no-good politician. Only people who join PTI are cleaned of all sins, even if it is people like Jahangir Tareen, or worse, the Lagharis.
Musharraf is known as murderer of BB in PPP and Fawad had been an outstanding follower of Musharraf. Therefore a big big question raises not for PPP but for Mr. Fawad that does he also believes that Musharraf is involved in BB murder ? BTW, Fawad still have Musharraf on his featured like pages on his Facebook :-)
Well ppp is not bad but Fawad Chaudary was the one who criticized it every time on live tv. Instead of welcoming these old turncoats things need to change.Parties are all about welcoming old turncoats so where is the change?
Once a turncoat always a turncoat.
Both PML-N and PPP are dead already. Why would someone join a party that has not done anything for the country in the past 4 years. The answer is simple: Zardari offered him more money.
This only proves that after the senate elections there is only one national party which would maintain its majority even after the next elections. When the lotas start coming back to the ruling party that shows which way the wiind is blowing.
Since he was a Dictators mediaperson, we cannot expect any good from him.
@Abid P. Khan: If Kursi has been his principle, he should have joined PPP in its first year of power, not in last. Secondly when Marvi memon and Kurshid Ahmed Qasoori, the staunch supporters of Mushraf could be part of PMLN and PTI, then why so much hue and cry on Fawad's entry in PPP.
ET going soft on PTI, I expected the headline to read that Fawad Chaudhry joined PPP afer rejecting PTI.............the same headline used for Marvi Memon!!
Good decision PPP should welcome more talented people like fawad CH.
shame shame
He might have been planning to join PTI and was seen with IK in Dubai during SKMH as well. But most likely PTI declined because of the issue mentioned in the article. PTI is already taking a lot of heat for traditional electables that have joined the party in the last few months. That's why PTI is being cautious now.
Oh damn! Tsunami is coming and these corrupt politicians have stopped taking notice of it. Utterly strange. Does it mean Pasha is going!
Who said that politicians don't have any principles? Kursi is their one and only principle.
@Bhatti: PML-n wouldn't have touched him with a 10 feet pole.
PTI, on the other hand, would have welcomed him with open arms , given their track record.
PPP is a better decision, but PTI would have been the best. Thank God, at least you didn't go for the worst i.e., PML-N.
PML(N) would have been a better choice. Embarking a train approaching last station is not a wise step.
Fawad and Shabaz should join PTI as there is no vote bank left for PPP in Jhelum due to its corrupt tenure of the Gilani government. I don't think this is wise decision by Fawad. Ideologically it look understandable but they should have joined PTi if they belie in two party system . Ay how good luck to you and I hope you will bring tranarency in PPP thinking so that it can also come to he right track of ZAB.
