MauSummery by Huma: Better than before?
In terms of the design aesthetic, the prints do not bear too much resemblance to the signature Mausummery look.
KARACHI:
After a successful run with the brand, Mausummery’s joint partners have parted ways. Huma Ahmed, one of the partners of the firm, has ventured on her own into the lawn forte. The new brand, MauSummery by Huma, had its first exhibition at the Karachi Marriott on March 6 which will continue till March 8.
In terms of the design aesthetic, the prints do not bear too much resemblance to the signature Mausummery look, especially when it comes to the colours. When asked about the progression and change in design, Ahmad opined, “As I have grown older and my personality has changed, it has reflected on my work as a lawn designer.”
With a myriad of colours on display, it was the vibrant colours amongst the light pastels which were attention-catching. The collection comprised of 13 designs with certain designs offering up to four colour-ways. Regarding the introduction of darker colours, Ahmed said, “Pastels tend to depress people. Although I have done pastels before, I don’t want the brand to be completely defined by it.”
Another interesting aspect was the unique incorporation and fusion of multiple cultures in the designs with inspirations coming from ancient Rome, Mughal era and Al-Hamra architecture.
Customer response
Unlike previous Mausummery collections, which brought in throngs and throngs of people, MauSummery by Huma was definitely a less busy and less frequented affair. The response could be a reaction to the negative sentiments and experiences from the last few exhibitions. Nazneen Tariq, fashion cum jewellery designer, a customer at the exhibition said, “Upon washing, the colours literally dripped and leaked out of the fabric.” She hopes that the same will not be the case for MauSummery by Huma.
