Firing at bus stop in Kech kills two, injures five
Security officials believe the men had been targeted due to their ethnicity.
QUETTA:
At least two persons were shot dead and five others were wounded in what appears to be a targeted attack in Kech district on Wednesday.
According to Levies sources, a group of men originally hailing from Punjab, were standing at a bus stop in Mand Bulo area, near the border with Iran. Unidentified men armed with sophisticated weapons approached the stand and opened fire at them.
Contrary to an earlier reported figure, two people were killed on the spot while five others sustained critical wounds. The attackers escaped from the scene after committing the crime.
The deceased and injured were immediately rushed to a nearby state-run hospital. Doctors described the condition of two of the injured as critical.
The deceased were identified as Riaz Ahmed and Mohammad Gulzar while those injured included Fiaz Ahmed (Rahim Yar Khan), Mohamamd Shafiq (Gujranwala), Mohamamd Sufyan (Gujranwala), Ijaz Ahmed (Mansehra) and Ehsanullah (Mansehra).
“The victims belonged to Punjab and were waiting for bus after returning from Iran via Mand Bulo border when they were targeted,” sources said, adding that dead bodies were sent to Faisalabad for burial.
Sources said three companions of the victims escaped unhurt in the attack. “It is an incident of target killing and the assailants managed to escape on motorbikes,” an official said.
“The victims were labourers and illegally went to Iran. They were returning to their hometowns when they were attacked.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the killings till the filing of this report.
