BBC World News back on air in Pakistan
A ban had been imposed on the channel in November 2011 for airing “anti-Pakistan” programming.
Popular British news channel, BBC World News is back on the air across Pakistan after being taken off by a number of cable television operators in November, 2011.
A ban had been imposed on the channel for airing “anti-Pakistan” programming following a NATO airstrike on a Pakistani border check post that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
BBC, in a statement, confirmed the resumption and said that it welcomed the development.
When the ban had been imposed, cable operators had also warned that other foreign TV channels found guilty of broadcasting “anti-Pakistan” content would be blocked.
The source of the ban
A two-part BBC documentary, “Secret Pakistan“, questioned the country’s commitment to tackling Taliban militancy. It had furthered festering Pakistani anger towards the west after a NATO airstrike on a border check post killed 24 soldiers.
It argued that some in Pakistan were playing a double game, quoting US intelligence officials as saying that they acted as America’s ally in public while secretly training and arming the Taliban in Afghanistan.
