A planned mosque and Muslim cultural centre near the site of the September 11 attacks, are facing a new hurdle as a lawsuit has been filed aiming to block the project.
The lawsuit has been filed by the American Center for Law and Justice in Washington, which claims to defend religious freedom in the United States.
The project has drawn support from leaders of religious communities in New York.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrow which consists of some families of victims of the attack have also voiced their favour for the project.
