PESHAWAR: A local radio journalist sustained bullet injuries when unidentified armed men, riding on a motorbike, intercepted him and opened fire on him in University Town, Peshawar , on Tuesday evening.

Sajid Khattak was going home after completing his day’s work at around five in the evening when armed men targeted him. They also took away his laptop.

Ehsan Dawar, a friend of Khattak told The Express Tribune that “Khattak sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital however, he was now out of danger.”

When contacted, Superintendent of Cantt Police, Shabihul Hassan told The Express Tribune that a case has been registered against unknown persons. Police teams have also been formed to investigate and collect information about the incident.

“We have dispatched teams that would be collecting information to dig out where the attackers escaped to,” he said adding the matter needed to be investigated thoroughly since the attackers took only his laptop, leaving other valuables.

“The attackers could have easily snatched his cell phone as well, but it needs thorough investigation as taking only his laptop raises doubts,” Hassan said, adding police would soon reach the bottom of the matter.

Sajid Khattak is a resident of Chirat. He is a radio broadcast journalist by profession, aligned with Intermedia.
