Capital crime: 2 arrested for killing father, husband
Property dispute, financial problems stated as motives.
CHISHTIAN:
A man accused of killing his father over a property dispute was arrested by Sheher Fareed police on Saturday.
Station House Officer Akhtar Shah told The Express Tribune Bakht Ali, resident of Rayazabad village in Basti Soda, had admitted to the crime during interrogation. Ali is accused of attacking his father, Suba Khan, with an axe in his sleep over a week ago and killing him. He had fled the area following the incident and was arrested by a police team from a neigbhouring village on Saturday night, the SHO said.
Akram, a neighbour, who had called the police to the crime scene, told The Tribune that Ali and his father had developed differences over the latter’s property. “Ali had been trying to persuade Suba Khan to transfer part of his property in his name,” he said. He said the two would frequently quarrel over the issue as Suba Khan had refused to transfer the property to Ali. “He was worried Ali would lose everything in gambling,” he said.
SHO Akhtar Shah said DNA samples taken from the body had been sent for laboratory examination to Multan. He said the report would be available in about 15 to 20 days.
Woman arrested for killing husband
In another incident, a woman, Shahida, was arrested on admitting to having killed her husband, Aslam, at their home in Chak 149 NB.
Channi Goth station house officer Rasheed Channer quoted Shahida as saying that she strangled Aslam in his sleep following a quarrel over household finances. She said the deceased had never given her enough money to run the household ever since their marriage three years ago.
Complainant Riaz Hussain, father of deceased Aslam, however, said he suspected that she was seeing another man and had killed Aslam so that she could marry him.
The suspect denied the allegation during questioning by police, the SHO told The Tribune.
