Tragic Incident: Foreign mine worker killed in Libya
The explosion happened in Dafniyah, a town 180 km west of the capital, Tripoli.
TRIPOLI:
A foreigner helping clear mines left over from Libya’s civil war was killed on Saturday, when an unexploded ordnance device blew up, local officials said. They claimed the mine clearance expert was originally from Estonia but was a resident in the United States. The explosion happened in Dafniyah, a town 180 km west of the capital, Tripoli. During last year’s conflict, forces loyal to ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi laid mines around Dafniyah, and several other towns, to prevent rebel fighters advancing towards the capital.
