Fuel prices: Raise challenged in court, again
Petition challenging the more than 7 per cent increase in prices of petroleum products announced by the government
LAHORE:
A petition was filed in Lahore High Court on Thursday challenging the more than 7 per cent increase in prices of petroleum products announced by the government on Wednesday. The petition was filed on behalf of Mohammad and Ahmad, a litigation company. The petitioner’s counsel said that its petition on an earlier hike was already pending in Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s court where the judge had been requested to direct the government to provide details about the method by which prices were revised. He started that his clients wanted the government to inform the court about the cost of production and cost of supply of petroleum products as well as charging of levies, duties and taxes. The counsel said that the petitioner had also requested the court to direct the respondents to provide details of all audited accounts related to the production and supply of petroleum products. The counsel said that the government had yet to provide the details. He requested the court to direct the government to provide the aforementioned details. He also requested the judge to stay the recent price raise.
