One more rejection: LUMHS calls HEC’s rankings ‘faulty’

Warned HEC that the matter will be taken to court if the commission does not rectify what LUMHS considers a ‘mistake’.

HYDERABAD:

The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) has rejected the Higher Education Commission’s university rankings, describing them as ‘faulty’ and ‘fallacious’.

The LUMHS faculty rejected the university’s ranking at number 10 among medical universities. The university has warned HEC that the matter will be taken to court if the commission does not rectify what LUMHS considers a ‘mistake’.

The HEC rankings, issued on February 23, have also been rejected by the faculty of Karachi University and the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology.

The LUMHS meeting was chaired by its academics director, Prof. Dr Shafi Jatoi, and quality enhancement director, Prof. Dr Faisal Solangi. The faculty adopted a resolution which objected to the ranking criteria. “The HEC announced the rankings in haste and caused chaos in both public and private institutions.”

LUMHS, which came in second place among medical universities last year, dropped eight positions.

According to Jatoi, the HEC made several changes in the ranking even after its announcement, which reflects the ‘fallacy’.
